Corruption - A Changing Concept

Well since I am from India I just cant stop and stare at the situation looming large at the face of every Indian right now and that is corruption. It has got its roots entrenched so far and deep in the Indian administration and Indian psychology that we have been left just as mute spectators to widespread scams. We have got corruption ingrained in our mind so much so that it has become a way of life for us.

Citizens right from the lower sections to highest end of the hierarchy pay bribes to get their work done. No work can be done without the so called babus getting their already fat pockets filled by the same citizens for whom they are working. Just to pay your water bill or to get your letters you have to pay bribes to get it done without any hassles. Students pay to get admissions into the most prestigious of institutions where a common man even in his dreams cannot pursue them. Companies pay out the governments to keep their dark and conceited ways remain as they are always. People are being led into frauds and more frauds by the private companies who parade themselves as the greatest phenomenon to have happened in that industry. People have to pay companies to get a job in their esteemed industry. Colleges make money by strangling the future life of a student and then arm fisting them to cough up money for their own infrastructure development if at all its happening. Politicians increase their own paychecks with unanimous solidarity and majority but wen it comes to increasing the paychecks of those simple citizens on whose money they live, they just can't get it to be passed even in 10 years. Business thrives on corruption. People pay extra money for even water at bus stands showing how corrupt the citizens themselves have become and the irony lies in the fact that nobody has the courage or wherewithal to challenge them and go to court. Politicians have palatial houses, their annual income increase as if they are the next bill gates. Its such a shame that all of us given in to this trend. And my country, where is it goin??? Well my country can be boastful of the fact that it is considered as one of the poorest nations in the world with an even more sorry looking HDI(Human Development Index).

But amid all this chaos something was brewing up much to the surprise of everyone. A hatred was gaining momentum inside. A change was coming, much refreshing and uniting than any change this country has witnessed. And this change could not  be withheld and it sure has come in a big way. It started with one man initiating the process, showing us the very needed light at the end of the tunnel. That man is my friends, Anna Hazare. A social activist and a true Gandhian to the core. He is leading the fight against corruption by fasting unto death for the passing of Jan Lokpal Bill at Jantar Mantar, a bill which is the hope and heartbeat of the nation. A bill which is significant of the the change that has embodied our nation over the time. It is being termed as the second independence struggle, the first being the independence from the British Raj and the second being the Independence from the corrupt. The law brings in it ambit, the power for civilians to take hard action against the corrupt whether its the Highly placed PM or the highly revered judiciary. Its power has shook the shackles of the Indian Political class in such a way that they are opposing it tooth and nail. The movement has gathered people in iconic proportions across all the country. And whats heartening to see is that the youth of the nation has spearheaded this movement. People have voluntarily come up and said no to corruption. Tweets flowing, thoughts being posted, candle marches being undertaken, people fasting for their very free breath of life. What a spectacle to behold. No one would have thought that India could react this way. But it has and it will continue to give shape to a thinking , a free nature feeling, that everything can be brought down. That the people themselves have the power to do anything in this world. That hope is what I find to be the most beautiful aspect of the movement being undertaken. A hope for equality, a hope for a better future, a hope for a corruption less India, a hope for the realization of the true strength of a nation. That's what Anna Hazare and the millions of Indians following him have given to this nation.

The Indian political scenario has to change under the will of the Great Indian population whose hearts and hard work have been brutally squashed under the drama called Indian Politics. The democracy was always by the people, for the people and of the people. And to maintain the neutrality of the slogan and ideology of a democracy, the Jan Lokpal Bill has to be passed. I sincerely wish all the best to the movement and hope that Our India will remain a country of prosperity and equality and a true democracy where the politician is here to serve the people and not the other way around.
